Why Orthodontics? Salem, OR
Expert Orthodontics provided by Dr. Amborn
in Salem, OR at Amborn Orthodontics
Your teeth are a valuable asset. Not only do they provide you with a beautiful smile, but they also allow you to eat and speak properly. When your teeth are misaligned, your smile is affected, leading to issues with confidence. Chewing can be difficult, which can then lead to poor digestion. What's more is that misaligned teeth can wear prematurely, and cause pain in the temporomandibular joint. Amborn Orthodontics is here to help.
Orthodontics for Children and TeensThe American Academy of Orthodontics recommends that children be seen for their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of 7. During this appointment, we evaluate the condition of your child's mouth to assess whether or not there are any orthodontic concerns, such as crowding, bite issues, and jaw alignment problems. If there are, we can determine when the best time to perform treatment would be. Treatment at an early age can help to guide the growth of your child's jaw, and allow their permanent teeth to erupt properly. It can also help to eliminate the need for extractions later in life, correct thumb-sucking issues and ease later orthodontic treatments, including braces in the teen years.
Orthodontics for AdultsOrthodontic treatment isn't just for children and teens. Adults can also benefit greatly. Whether you couldn't afford braces at a younger age, or your teeth have shifted over time, orthodontics can give you a beautiful smile you have always wanted. Thanks to the advances in dental technology, there are options other than traditional metal braces. These alternatives are making orthodontic treatment more appealing to adults.
How does orthodontics Work?Traditional metal braces are still in use, as they are an extremely popular option. Metal brackets are cemented to your teeth. The archwires place pressure on the brackets and guide your teeth into place.
Thanks to technology, there are several other options available for orthodontic treatment. One of the options available at Amborn Orthodontics is Damon braces. Brackets are still placed on your teeth, but they don't require elastic O-rings. Instead, the wire attaches to the brackets through a sliding mechanism. This allows for less discomfort and a shorter treatment time. We also offer Damon Clear, which uses clear brackets to provide you with practically invisible braces.
Another option is clear aligners. Aligners are custom created from molds of your mouth, designed to gradually move your teeth where they need to go. Unlike braces, clear aligners (which provide an invisible option) are removable. You can take them out to eat and brush your teeth. This helps to remove the limitations that braces put on your diet and makes your teeth easier to keep clean.
How long does treatment take? The length of your treatment depends heavily on your specific situation. If your issues are minor, clearly treatment will take less time. Typically, treatment lasts between one to three years, but your time may vary depending on the severity of your orthodontic issues, complications, or compliance issues. Compliance is the top reason why treatment takes longer than originally predicted. It is important that you follow the instructions for your treatment to achieve optimal results.
