How does orthodontics Work?Traditional metal braces are still in use, as they are an extremely popular option. Metal brackets are cemented to your teeth. The archwires place pressure on the brackets and guide your teeth into place.
Thanks to technology, there are several other options available for orthodontic treatment. One of the options available at Amborn Orthodontics is Damon braces. Brackets are still placed on your teeth, but they don't require elastic O-rings. Instead, the wire attaches to the brackets through a sliding mechanism. This allows for less discomfort and a shorter treatment time. We also offer Damon Clear, which uses clear brackets to provide you with practically invisible braces.
Another option is clear aligners. Aligners are custom created from molds of your mouth, designed to gradually move your teeth where they need to go. Unlike braces, clear aligners (which provide an invisible option) are removable. You can take them out to eat and brush your teeth. This helps to remove the limitations that braces put on your diet and makes your teeth easier to keep clean.
How long does treatment take?The length of your treatment depends heavily on your specific situation. If your issues are minor, clearly treatment will take less time. Typically, treatment lasts between one to three years, but your time may vary depending on the severity of your orthodontic issues, complications, or compliance issues. Compliance is the top reason why treatment takes longer than originally predicted. It is important that you follow the instructions for your treatment to achieve optimal results.
